Reading at St George’s
Reading is a huge part of life at St George’s. We ask that all children read at least 4 times a week at home to ensure they become fluent, comprehensive readers. Children will receive a raffle ticket every time there are 10 signatures in their reading record. One ticket will be drawn from each class at the end of every half term. The winner will receive a reading hamper of age appropriate books.
Alongside our class library, we also have our Top 10 Reads. These are books which have been specially chosen to promote reading for pleasure, equality and a high level of vocabulary. Children are encouraged to read as many of these 10 books throughout the year and record which they have read in the reading record.

English

This half term in English we are sharing the text Secrets of a Sun King by Emma Carroll which is a historical adventure story set in 1922, during the exciting discovery of ancient Egyptian treasures.
The story follows Lilian “Lil” Jones, a young girl living in London. When her grandfather, who has just returned from Egypt, falls mysteriously ill after receiving a strange Egyptian package, Lil suspects something supernatural may be involved. Around the same time, news spreads about the discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb, and rumors of a deadly curse begin to circulate.
Determined to save her grandfather, Lil teams up with her friends — including her brave and loyal brother Robert — to uncover the truth. Their journey takes them from foggy London streets to the blazing deserts of Egypt. Along the way, they encounter secrets, danger, ancient artifacts, and the growing legend of the pharaoh’s curse.
As Lil investigates, she learns about courage, friendship, and the importance of questioning what seems like superstition. The novel blends real historical events — such as the discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb by Howard Carter — with fiction, creating a thrilling mystery full of twists and adventure.
Through this text the pupils will be writing a story with speech and creating a report based on an aspect of Ancient Egypt.
Maths
This half term in maths, pupils will be focusing on length & perimeter and fractions. We will continue to follow White Rose Maths for our maths lessons.
To support maths learning at home, please ensure you child is engaging with TTRS.
